Würth Elektronik Introduces New Families of Surface-Mount Multi-Channel Galvanic Isolators for Digital Signals

15/01/2024

Würth Elektronik recently unveiled two innovative families of surface-mount multi-channel galvanic isolators designed for digital signals. The first family, WPME-CDIP, features devices with four 100Mbit/s isolated channels and a built-in dc-dc converter that provides isolated power from one side to the other. These devices offer flexibility with different versions that encompass various combinations of digital isolator directions. Depending on the specific model, the isolators can support all channels from input to output, three channels in that direction and one returning, or two channels in each direction. Additionally, a pin selection feature allows for the choice of 3.3 or 5V power at the output, delivering up to 650mW of power.

The WPME-CDIP family ensures isolation of up to 5kVrms, with conducted and radiated EMI compliance in accordance with EN55032 Class B / CISPR-32 standards. The packaging for these devices is a compact 10.3 x 7.5 x 2.5mm SOIC-16. Meanwhile, the WPME-CDIP family also offers models with the same 10.3 x 7.5 x 2.5 mm SOIC-16WB packaging, providing 5kVrms of isolation. Additionally, two-channel models are available in a smaller 4.9 x 3.9 x 1.5mm SOIC-8NB packaging, offering 3.75kVrms of isolation.

Moreover, both families include variants that default to logic-high on the isolated side in the absence of a connection to the input side, alongside other variants that default to logic-low. These isolators operate reliably across a wide temperature range of -40 to +125°C. However, it's important to note that versions inclusive of the dc-dc converter may not deliver their full power capability beyond 85°C.

These new families of galvanic isolators from Würth Elektronik are set to offer enhanced options for designers and engineers working with digital signals, providing flexible, efficient, and reliable solutions for various application scenarios.
